The School of Foreign Studies (SFS), Guilin University of Electronic Technology (GUET) is a developing yet promising institution. We have a BA English program and offer English courses to all bachelor, master and doctorate students in the university. For the moment quite a number of programs such as MA English Language and Literature, MA Applied Linguistics, BA Japanese, BA TCSOL (Teach Chinese to Speakers of Other Language), BA Applied Linguistics, and BA Translation Studies are under construction. Many of our faculty are hardworking at the cutting edge of their disciplines.
SFS encourages intellectual exchange across disciplines, and creates a sense of community for teachers and students. SFS has also academic links with other relevant institutions home and abroad. SFS arranges seminars, promotes conferences, welcomes well-known research visitors, and foster research clusters.
The University campus is situated in Guilin, a well-known tourist city in the world, and is entirely self-contained. The friendly and informal campus life is a reflection of the community at large; Guilin is a tolerant, lively and exciting place.

桂林电子科技大学外语系立足英语，突出公外，致力于发展相关本科专业，努力建设硕士点。目前设有一个英语本科专业，2005年招生90人。公共外语工作包括大学英语、硕士研究生英语、博士研究生英语、公共日语、公共法语的教学与研究。目前正在规划建设英语语言文学、外国语言学及应用语言学2个硕士点和日语、对外汉语教学、应用语言学、翻译4个本科专业。
外语系学术氛围浓厚，学术环境宽松，学术文化宽容，高度重视与兄弟院校的联系与交流。每个教师都有明确的研究方向并自然组成学术团队。承担省、厅、校级项目多项。鼓励跨学科、跨院系研究。
在人才培养思路上基础和个性发展并重。鼓励学生在教师的指导下通过自己的阅读、思考、调查(观察、实验),研究（讨论）去认知、发现、发展。04届毕业生（第一届本科毕业生）就业率98%，其中13%考上上海外国语大学、北京大学、外交学院、北京广播学院、瑞士洛桑酒店管理学院、英国豪尔大学等国内重点或国外知名院校的研究生，其余在中国对外友协、海关、舰队、国旅以及中心城市和沿海地区企业就业。
